I traveled through India some time ago. When in Haridwar, I walked past a young girl, maybe 10 or 11, with one of her legs chopped off. She was begging. This was clearly done by her parents as you were discussing. She was crawling or pulling herself all around in abject filth. She was also smiling not just ear to ear, but from the heart. My heart broke. I went into shock and proceeded to cry all the following day. That's one deeply screwed up culture.
I once lived in a small town with a small gypsy population. Every weekend, the local farmers’ market was swarming with gypsies begging: some of them annotated, others deformed, others limb and blind. I couldn’t help but wonder why such misfortune would disproportionally target that demographic. I asked the locals and every single one answered more or less the same: “Don’t you know? Gypsies cripple their children on purpose so they can evoke more pity and more charity.” I hated the culture ever since. Proudly.

What kind of gypsies? My father was a Romanian Gypsy.
Turkish. Doesn’t matter what ethnicity bad people try to hide behind
No, doesn’t. Just sharing about my dad being a gypsy is all. He didn’t want to sabotage me or anything, at least not through gross measures.
This is why I make a distinction between individualism and collectivism, and individual culture before collective culture
